I know, I know being a Mom working outside the home doesn't leave much time for meal prep, self care, a clean house let alone shopping for and dressing our little fashionistas--which is exactly why I am creating this post. We have our go to brands that just seem to get us and don't break the bank, links to one of our favs in the pictures below.
So once per quarter WE browse my fave websites and make a short list WITH the girls. I have found that they have to buy into the clothes or I am just wasting straight cash money. I love to see our girls sense of style, which has been presenting itself more and more lately. Historically, the way that we have been able to get them to get dressed independently in the morning has been by making it a competition. Last one dressed and downstairs is a rotten egg--anybody feel me?!?! Our personal favorite lately though is simply asking them to head upstairs to get dressed. We make sure to let them know we are really looking forward to seeing what they pick out, and strangely this has been working like a charm. Here are a couple of outfits our little Emmery is diggin right now.
1. Get them to buy into the item of clothing or outfit by picking it out themselves (from your short list, then everyones happy and dressed appropriately for the season--no shorts the week before Christmas).
2. Healthy competition. An example of our latest version of this is, last one downstairs and dressed gets an extra 10 minutes of iPad time. Our girls are incredibly competitive. As long as the competition is healthy I am all for it and it works incredibly well for us.
3. They want to please us--its just human nature. They are also looking for our approval. Simply letting them know we are excited to see what they pick out satisfies their need for approval and boosts their self confidence. This approach tells them exactly what you would like them to do but still gives them the freedom to put it together their way. Win, win in our house.
Let us know ideas that you have had success with to get your little's to cooperate. We would love to hear from you.
